Background
The ABSA House Price Index is a monthly report that looks at the rate of change in residential property prices as well as the current average house price.

The data used to produce this report is sourced from properties that have an ABSA bond registered over them.

The Absa House Price Index is split into 3 major groups:
Small Houses
Small Houses are defined as being between 80 – 140 sqr meters.
In the May Index prices of small houses grew by 29,2% over a 12 month period.
The average price of houses in this category was R843 700.

Medium-Sized Houses
Medium-Sized Houses are defined as being between 141 – 220 sqr meters.
In the May Index prices of medium-sized houses grew by 9% since May 2009.
The average price of houses in this category was R998 600.

Larger Houses
Large Houses are defined as being between 221 – 400 sqr meters.
In the May Index prices of large houses grew by 6.4% since May 2009.
The average price of houses in this category was R1 464 900
